چکیده

Compared to optical sensors the use of radar for earth observation has only just begun. The rst use of radar for this purpose was reported in the sixties. The most important reason to use radar instead of optical sensors is of course its capability to penetrate through clouds and its day and night imaging capabilities. However, radar interferometry might add yet another reason to use radar. Recently it has been shown that with spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radars height maps can be created with accuracies of 10{20 meters, whereas deformations of the Earth's surface can be measured with sub-centimeter accuracy. Apart from these terrestrial applications, also the high resolution mapping of atmospheric signal delay has been demonstrated. This information becomes available by using interferometric processing techniques of multiple satellite images. Here we will outline the basics of the technique and its potential as well as the limitations.

Radar Polarimetry Radar Interferometry and Polarimetric SAR Interferometry represent the current culmination in ‘Microwave Remote Sensing’ technology, but we still need to progress very considerably in order to reach the limits of physical realizability. Comparison of Local and Non-Local Methods in Covariance Matrix Estimation by Using Multi-baseline SAR Interferometry and Height Extraction for Principal Components with Maximum Likelihood Approach

By today, the technology of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) has been largely exploited in digital elevation model (DEM) generation and deformation mapping. Conventional InSAR technique exploits two SAR images acquired from slightly different angles, in which the information of elevation and deformation can be captured through processing of the phase difference of the image...

Polarimetric Interferomtry

SAR polarimetry makes use of the polarization dependent scattering response of each pixel within the imaged area. The polarimetric response is highly sensitive to the scattering mechanism of a pixel. SAR interferometry is sensitive to the location of a pixel and its scattering geometry. The location of a pixel can be measured by the phase difference between two coherent SAR images using SAR int...

Determination of the displacement rate of the Masouleh landslide for management of landslide risk by Radar Interferometry

One of the most common natural phenomena occurring in mountainous regions of the world is landslide which causes critical damages and is considered as a natural disaster.  Iran is a country which annually suffers from this disaster and its consequent damage of about 500 billion Rial. Over the last 15 years, an increasing number of researches have aimed to demonstrate the applicability of the im...

Doppler Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry: A Novel SAR Interferometry for Height Mapping using Ultra-Narrowband Waveforms

This paper introduces a new and novel radar interferometry based on Doppler synthetic aperture radar (Doppler-SAR) paradigm. Conventional SAR interferometry relies on wideband transmitted waveforms to obtain high range resolution. Topography of a surface is directly related to the range difference between two antennas configured at different positions. Doppler-SAR is a novel imaging modality th...
